About This Presentation
Presented by Christine Mason, Kahlil Kuykendall and Tim Mills. Three leaders of the Center for Educational Improvement (CEI) will describe bringing kundalini yoga, a yoga of awareness and rhythmic movement, to schools, prenatal classes for teens, and correctional facilities. The impact of our approach is enhanced through our bi-monthly HeartMind eNews, with over 12,000 subscribers, and research conducted with Yale University and underway with Indigenous students in Oklahoma. Drawing on findings shared in our books, social media, eNews, and website, we will offer lessons learned guiding classroom teachers to use yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation to support student self-regulation, classroom co-regulation, and well-being. We will provide ideas for adapting practices across ages and circumstances. Our work includes formal research, with further studies planned on school safety; Indigenous students who have experienced significant trauma; pregnancy prevention and prenatal care for teenage girls; and yoga in correctional settings.
Feedback and next steps: Feedback is welcome although we are currently in an expansion mode. Funding is a concern.
